As the historic events and actions due to the pandemic continue, we the organizers of Cascade Days were faced with a dilemma. To cancel and look forward to next year or to try to hold the event. While we value life and want everyone to stay healthy and safe, we also know that being part of a community is important to one’s health and safety.
In this spirit, we are pleased to announce a re-imagining of Cascade Days this year. While having the normal festivities isn’t an option at this point, we have found what we believe to be a compromise that will allow the community to come together in a safe and meaningful manner.
This year’s event will focus around the annual parade. Instead of in years past where folk would dress up and march for the enjoyment of onlookers, this year we are asking everyone to come together and be the parade. We are asking everyone to decorate their vehicles and themselves, then come join us on Main Street where you can see and be seen!
The committee is looking at all options of fun that we can safely provide, but the core of it will be you and your family coming out to display your upriver style and strength. We are planning on taking tons of photos and live streaming, if possible. It is our hope to have music and entertainment for you in return. We are also working on a big plan to make it worthwhile to come out and join us. But until we have the plan worked out and approved, we don’t want to make promises we can’t keep.
What we can promise is a chance to come out together as safely and fun as we can. A chance to show we are still here. That we are not only Skagit strong, but we are Upriver strong!
Save the date of Saturday, August 22nd!
